James Brunton Stephens was a poet, novelist, school teacher, and public servant. He taught at the Normal School in Brisbane, Kelvin Grove and Ashgrove, and was appointed to the Colonial Secretary's Office as dispatch writer in 1883 and eventually became Under Secretary. George Essex Evans was a poet, journalist and public servant, noted for his patriotic poems. He was mainly based in Queensland. From the description of Letter [manuscript]. 1900 February.
